Munnar City 
Historical Description
Located in the district of Kerala, it is one of the favorite tourist destination of Kerala. The history of Munnar is as old as 10th century. MunarThe word 'Munnar' means three rivers and the name is appropriate to it as the city is situated at the confluence point of three rivers. Duke of Wellington was the first European to visit this place in the year 1790. Later in the 1870s, the Poonjar chief, a subordinate to the Maharaja of Travancore, leased 588 sq. km. land to a Scottish tea planter named J.D.Munro. Right from the day, Munnar became a perfect tea plantation area in South India.

Nyayamkad - Located at a distance of 10 km between Munnar & Rajmala, the place provides breathtaking views of waterfalls. Its scenic surroundings makes it an excellent picnic spot.
Devikulam - It is a popular hill station situated at a distance of 7km from Munnar. Its enchanting surroundings with rich variety of flora and fauna will surely give you some pleasant experience. There is also a mineral water lake named Sita Devi, which is known for trout fishing.
Mattupetty - Situated at a distance of 13 km, Mattupetty is known for its cattle breeding farm. Its a joint project of India and Nepal, where one can see 100 varieties of high yielding cattle. This place is also famous for its lake and dam which are ideal for picnic and also offers boat cruises.
Eravikulam Wildlife Sanctuary - Located at a distance of 15km from Munnar, this area of 97 sq. km. was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1975 and later in 1978 as a national park. It houses the famous antelope Nilgiri Tahr.
Attukal - Situated between Munnar and Pallivasal, the place offers picturesque waterfalls, hills and is also an ideal place for trekking.

By Air - The Cochin International Airport is the nearest one and at a distance of 121 km.
By Rail - Ernakulam Junction is the nearest railhead and at a distance of 127km.
By Road - Munnar is easily accessible from all the major cities & towns of Kerala. The NH49 links Munnar to Cochin and Madurai. Munnar is also connected to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu via Pollachi. Munnar Bus Stand is well connected to all the major cities of South India by government run(KSRTC) and private bus services.
