Introduction Surguja
Surguja State is situated about 41.6 kms from the southwest of Samri. The nearest village to its east is Lamka. Depadih is connected with the tahsil headquarters by Kutchha roads.There are a few ruined temples and tanks in Surguja. According to some historians a Dravidian monarch, named Samni Singh, ruled Depadih.A village of Ambikapur tahsil, Deogarh is situated on the bank of the Rihand amidst calm scenic views. The place is also called Deoria, due to the great number of deities scattered all around. There are quite a few hills, formed by the rubble of temples, each vested with a deity.
The archaeology of this place may date back to a very early age. A Nagavamsi ruler of the Bhara-siva dynasty might have constructed its Guuri-Shankar temple during 110 B.C. to 78 A.D. A high hill of the District with a peak, Ramgarh lies to the east of the great road from Allahabad to Rameshwaram, in the extreme south. Allahabad is about 384 km. from this hill. It rises unexpectedly from the surrounding plains of the former Rampur tappa of the District.Kailash Caves is situated at Sabarbar , 60Kms to the east of Ambikapur. Saint Rameshwar Gahira Guruji created these caves. Temple of Lord Shiva-Parvati are there in caves.
On Mahashivratri a festival is organized here.. Pratappur is 45 km's far from Ambikapur, village Shivpur is 4 Kms from Pratappur.Mainpat has beautiful Buddha temples. They followers of Dalai Lama have developed serene atmosphere of humanity in Mainpat. Buddha Temple is a place to appreciate the art of Buddha vihars and people of Tibet.

1. Mahamaya Temple
This simple temple is to the east of Ambikapur town.
2. Thinthini Patthar
This 200 quintal rock is cylindrical in shape. When struck, you get a metallic echo, popularly believed to be divine.
3. Kudargarh
This place of worship, dedicated to Goddess Kudargarhi is on a hill. People come here seeking fulfillment of their wishes.
4. Ramgarh and Sita Bengra
Lord Rama, central character of the epic Ramayana, and his wife Sita, are believed to have stayed in these caves during their 14 years of exile. The locals know many stories about the caves,
handed down through generations.
5. Pawai Waterfalls
This natural waterfall flows through the year and is a popular picnic spot.
6. Kendai Waterfalls
This natural waterfall is on the Bilaspur road.
7. Deepadih
the Shankar Temple here is surrounded by 4 gods - Lord Ganesha, Lord Kartikeya, and Lord Vishnu with his all avtars (forms) and Goddess MahaDurga - who are there to guard and serve Lord Shiva. Deepadih is about 70 km from Ambikapur.
8. Mainpat
This hill station is known for its Tiger Point waterfall and woolen fabric. Saila Dance: Only males participate in this group dance, performed during public functions, national festivals, and political rallies, and in January after cutting the crop. All the dancers hold two hard bamboo sticks and strike the sticks of their neighbour in unison.
9. Suwa Dance
This is a dance by which a young girl lets a young boy know she is interested in him. When a marriageable young boy listens this song and sees the girl dancing, he sends a marriage proposal to her parents. It is also danced to please the goddess of wealth handed down through generations.
10. Tata Pani
This hot spring, 95 km from Surguja, flows continuously through the year. It is reputed to have medicinal properties.
