dia. Founded in 1620 AD by Churu, a chieftain of the Jats (an agricultural people of northern India), the town has a hospital and a college affiliated with the University of Rajasthan. Churu district (16,829 sq. km) comprises a semi-arid sandy plain, watered only by the Katli River in the northeast.The rolling sand hills of the district's southwest portion form part of the Bagar tract, where the breeding of sheep, cattle, and camels is extensive. Bajra (pearl millet), gram, and pulses are the chief crops, gypsum deposits are worked.

The town of Churu does not have much to offer to its visitors except for the few historical buildings like Ratangarh fort, Salasar Balaji Temple and Surana Haveli. The town even does not have any handicrafts to boast about except for some good sandalwood objects.
1. Ratangarh
The Maharaja of Bikaner, Ratan Singh constructed this gigantic fort in 1820 AD on Agra Bikaner highway. It is evident from the architecture of the town that the city was planned much before the construction started. The shopping area is made in the shape of a cross. Some grand havelis surround the clock tower of the town.
2. Salasar Balaji
It is a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is very well known pilgrimage of the country. Thousands of devotees visit this place with a belief that Lord Balaji will fulfill all their desires.
3. Surana Haveli
This six-storied building has more than 1100 artistic windows and doors.
4. Dudhwa Khara
It is a historical village in the Thar Desert and has superbly designed havelis. You can enjoy camel safaris and village life here.
5. Sardar Shahar
This captivating desert town has deftly beautiful havelis ornamented with colourful wall paintings and engraved woodwork.
6. Tal Chhapar
This lake is a home to several endangered species, black bucks and some migratory birds.
Getting There
The State Roadways bus stand is half a km south of the private bus stand. There are regular bus services operated by R.S.R.T.C that links to all major destinations in Rajasthan. One can even hire a private cab and drive 320 Km from Delhi, while stopping at Jhunjhunu, Pilani and Bhiwani for mild refreshments. The train head is 100m north of the private bus stand. It takes around 4. hours to reach Bikaner and 7 hr to reach the National Capital. Tourists can avail cycle-rickshaws for local commutation within the town.
