Badan Singh established and founded the
fort and palaces of Deeg in 1725. Seven years later, Raja Badan Singh adopted son Maharaja Suraj Mal in 1733 AD laid the foundation nearby of the fort of Bharatpur. It was a formidable structure called Lohagarh (iron fort), which lived up to its reputation, it was once an impregnable well fortified city, carved out of the region formerly known as Mewat. The trio of Bharatpur, Deeg and Dholpur has played an important part in the history of Rajasthan.The 55 km long journey by road from agra drives you to the town of Bharatpur –the eastern gateway to Rajasthan.Bharatpur is popular for its bird sanctuary – The Keoladeo Ghana National Park-finest in Asia with a rich avian variety. Every year the rare Siberian Cranes come to spend the winter in the warmer climate of Bharatpur. Of the remnants of the royal past remains the marvellous Bharatpur Palace housing a rich repository of a large number of ancient exhibits that date back to the early 15 th century.

Places To See In Bharatpur
1. Bharatpur Government Museum 
Located in the Center of the famous Lohagarh Fort, the Bharatpur Museum houses a rich collection of archaeological wealth of the nearby areas as from the old Bharatpur State. The huge palatial building Kachahari Kalan, once the administrative block of the rulers of Bharatpur state, was converted into a Museum in 1944. Later on, the Kamra Khas (personal chamber) building on the first floor was added to the museum. It exhibits sculptures found during the excavation of old villages e.g. Noh, Mailah, Bareh, Bayana etc. ranging from th
e Kuslian period.
2. Deeg
During the 18th century,xe "Deeg" Deeg was the capital of the Jat Kingdom. It was the second capital of the Bharatpur kingdom. It is 35km north of Bharatpur, 90km from Agra, and 50km east of Alwar. The interesting places to see here are the Deeg Palace and the Fort. Deeg is worth visiting, but few foreigners come.
It is a convenient day trip to Deeg from Bharatpur, Mathura or Agra. Gopal Bhavan (18th century), is impressive. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in India, and is a combination of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The palace was used by the Jat Maharajas until the early 1970s and is in excellent condition. Many of the rooms contain their original furniture.

asure palaces at Deeg, about 32 kms. From Bharatpur. Gopal Bhawan, the most impressive building, overlooking Gopal Sagar tank, was built in the mid 18th century. It faces the formal garden. On the front terrace is a marble swing said to have belonged to Noor Jahan. The banquet hall is spacious with a double tow of graceful pillars. In one of the rooms on the upper floor is a solid black marble bed, on which the corpses of the Maharajas were laid.
The dining hall in yellow marble with curved sloping window arches, the Royal Chess Room with a low arcade of columns and a sunken section in the centre where the huge chessboard was laid out are worth seeing. Gopal Bhawan, with all its windows having stone lattice work, is flanked by two pavilions, Sawan and Bhadon with curved roofs and ornamental spires.
To the north and south of the garden are Nand Bhawan and Krishna Bhawan respectively. The focal point of the garden, directly opposite Gopal Bhawan, is the pillared summer pavilion called Keshav Bhawan overlooking Roop Sagar tank.SURAJ BHAWAN Built in white marble, an exquisite palace, with balconies overhanging the water.
