Sikkim-Entry Formalities
Entry Formalities
Foreigners must obtain an Inner Line Permit from the Home Ministry, New Delhi, which should be applied for four weeks in advance before the proposed date of entry into Sikkim.A copy to be endorsed to the Sikkim Tourism, Hotel Janpath, Room No. 10, New Delhi to expedite the matter. This permit will allow them to stay for 7 days in case of sight-seeing and 10 days for group trekkers not exceeding twenty.
Restricted areas
All of East Sikkim beyond Rongali and North Sikkim beyond Phodang are restricted areas.
East Sikkim
Arrival at Gangtok, Sightseeing the Monasteries at Gangtok, Excursion to Phodong Monastery, Labrang Monastery and Phensong Monastery,Tour to Tsomgo Lake 3750m towards Tibet Border, Transfer to Pemayangtse, Sightseeing the Monasteries of Pemayangtse and Tashiding, Transfer to Airport or extension of programme.
West Sikkim to Gangtok drive 4-5 hrs, local tour around Gangtok, Gangtok to Tsomgo lake drive 3750m, Gangtok to Yuksom drive 5-6 hrs 1880m, Trek starts: Yuksom to Tshoka 6-7 hrs 2950m, Tshoka to Dzongri 5-6 hrs 3950m, Dzongri rest for acclimatization, Dzongri to Thangshing 5 hrs 3800m, Thangshing to Samiti 3-4 hrs 4600m, Samiti to Goechala Pass 5000m and back to Thangshing, Thangshing to
Tshoka, Tshoka to Yuksom, Yuksom to Pemayangtse.
North Sikkim to Gangtok, local tour around Gangtok, Tsomgo Lake tour 3750m towards Tibet Border, Gangtok to Lachung. 5-6 hrs drive, Lachung to Yumthang ( valley of Flowers ) back to Lachung, Lachung to Lachen. 3-4 hrs drive, Lachen to Thangu to Chopta valley, and drive back to Lachen. For Indians: go up to Gurudongmar Lake 17000 ft, Lachen to Gangtok.
