Uttaranchal the land abundant with some of the rare species of flora and fauna. Uttaranchal boasts of quite a few national parks and sanctuaries. The Nanda Devi National Park is situated near the Nanda Devi, the second highest mountain peak of India.The national park has some of the unique high altitude flora and fauna in the world. The park offers breathtaking sceneries, wooded environment and richness of biosphere. UNESCO has declared the Nanda Devi Biosphere as a World Heritage Site.Nanda Devi National Park was established in the year 1980.The history of this sanctuary says that the British Mountaineers,Mr. Eric Shipton and Mr.Bill Tilman were the first men to reach this sanctuary.
The park is stretched about an area of 630 Sq. Kms. , Just next to the Nanda Devi Peak.It is to be remembered that Nanda Devi peak is the second highest mountain peak,of an altitude of 7816 mts.,in the Indian Himalayan mountain range.
As the Nanda devi peak is a favorite peak among the trekkers and mountaineers the affect of the modern civilization can be seen in this park but still it hasn't lost it's pristine and virginity.

1. The Vegetation
The main vegetation here is of fir, birch, rhododendron, and juniper. In the inner sanctuary, conditions are drier and near the Nanda Devi Glacier, the vegetation is almost nil. Starting from Ramani, the vegetation changes to alpine and the place is dominated by the juniper scrubs, which gradually leads to the area with grasses, prone mosses, and lichens.
2. The Animals
Animal population of species like bharal, Himalayan tahr, serow, goral, snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, brown bear, leopard, common langur, Himalayan musk deer, and brown beer dominate the park area.
3. The Birds
There are nearly 80 species of birds in this area. Warblers, gresbreaks, rose finches and ruby throat are commonly seen here.
